She's just dropped an impressive mixtape called
Sailing Soul(s), featuring collaborations with
Drake, Miguel, Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar and
Gucci Mane,. Throughout the 13-track collection, Jhene showcases her soft, sweet vocals, her emotional growth and how far her voice has developed since the B2K days.
All songs were written by
Jhene, except "July" and is mostly produced by
Fisticuffs, except "July" and "You vs Them" (produced by
Bei Maejor), "Real Now" (produced by
Roosevelt), "Do Better" (produced by
J. Lbs), and "Growing Apart" (produced by
Tae Beats).
Los Angeles hailing singer/songwriter Jhene Aiko [pronounced juh-nay ahh-ee-ko], 23, first emerged on the R&B scene at a young age whilst signed to Epic Records alongside the likes of B2K and Omarion, whom she met at elementary school. “LA is a city of entertainment, so everybody ends up meeting each other so you run into everybody. I think the entertainment business is like a high school,” she says.
The conversation had with a musically inquisitive, 20-something friend from Italy shortly before writing this feature [scrutinous but open minded, we regularly harass each other for musical recommendations]:
