Known for his work with Lupe Fiasco, Georgia Anne Muldrow, Chris Dave and Oddisee, to name just a few, and his DJing in support of the likes of Erykah Badu and Questlove, British producer Eric Lau steps back into the limelight with his second album One Of Many, showcasing his skills as a songwriter as well as a producer.
For those who have yet to discover underground electro/soul artist Fatima, her debut EP Mindtravellin is getting a lot of buzz on the London scene right now. A combination of Floetry-style vocals and alternative electro production, Fatima is carving out a unique and intriguing sound. Working closely with producers Funkineven, Floating Points and Alexander Nut, Fatima’s style has developed organically and has been allowed to develop at Eglo Records, the independent label set up by Alex Nut and Floating Points to which she is signed.
On the live scene Fatima has been performing at various underground clubs including Cargo and Plastic People. At one such gig in Rotterdamn recently, Fatima was invited to perform with Hip Hop super group Slum Village.
Upon playing Shafiq Husayn’s debut solo LP “Shafiq En A-Free-ka” to my 65 year old father (possibly the world’s oldest Sa-Ra fan) his first reaction was, “This isn’t Sa-Ra, is it?” Shafiq whether intentionally or naturally has departed from the “Sa-Ra” sound. A unique sound trademarked half a decade ago when Sa-Ra burst through our speakers with the aptly named “Glorious.” A lo-fi playalistic exploration into digital psychedelia, creating a sonic palette that’s instantly recognisable to its fans.
