Consistency is definitely key when it comes to Shaffer Smith, aka Ne-Yo. Whether it’s his thought-provoking songwriting capabilities, comfortable harmonies, or his effortless ability to make hit record after hit record, his success rate is one that not too many in the music industry can contend with. Switching labels, the Arkansas-born singer/songwriter has finally jumped the Def Jam ship and has now found a new home in the form of the legendary Motown label. Releasing his fifth studio album R.E.D., which is an acronym for Realizing Every Dream, things seem to have come a long way for Ne-Yo since the disappointing commercial reception he received for 2010’s Libra Scale. Already with a UK number one single featured on the album - "Let Me Love You (Until You Learn To Love Yourself)" - R.E.D. is an album full of promise. With lots of highs and a few lows, most of all it sees a return to the type of songwriting his fans know he’s capable of.

Whose world is this? Moments ago as I perched, humming on the rim of a potted tree by the Hudson River, an intriguing bird joined me and strutted inches away while I mused on the events of last night. In similarly close proximity 12 hours prior (June 14), I watched as Queensbridge representing Hip Hop legend Nasir "Nas" Jones stepped before a Hennessy and Belvedere sipping intimate music/media crowd at the Skyline room of The New Museum, New York to exclusively share snippets of nine tracks from his new album. Life is Good.

“I wanted to give you the foundation and allow you to hear where I am, and what the essence of expectations should be,” R&B superstar Usher Raymond says of tracks shared with London media at the preview event for his new album Looking 4 Myself (which contrary to reports is not called The Shanertance), held in the plush basement of The Arts Club on Thursday, March 22.

Four time Grammy Award-nominated singer, songwriter and producer Ledisi returns with her highly anticipated fifth studio album Pieces of Me and we’ve not been able to put it down for the week or so that we’ve had it in our possession. It’s certainly not her previous LP Turn Me Loose, and why would it be? It doesn’t need to be because she’s already done that and fans that were expecting another record in that same vein will be disappointed but only for a short while as Pieces of Me proves to stand on it’s own as a definitive body of work showing progression, growth and certainly a more mature outlook than it’s predecessors.
