Returning to the frontline and ready to offer up some of her signature sound, Alicia Keys puts out her RCA Records debut Girl On Fire. Her fifth studio album overall, it’s the first time she’s released any new material since 2009’s Element of Freedom. With her marriage to producer Swizz Beatz and the birth of their first son, Egypt, part reason for the delay, there’s also been a shift in record labels, some sneaker designing, and a bit of charity work thrown in to the mix for good measure. Refocusing her energies on the music, her most recent ongoing promotional campaign has seen her very much stroll back in to the limelight, and to a good reception.

Previously on The Adventures of B.o.B aka Bobby Ray, Atlanta rapper/singer B.o.B was busy claiming the many plaudits for what was a superb year for him back in 2010. Emerging from under the tutorship of DJ Drama and southern kingpin T.I., Bobby Ray broke away from the limited expectations many had of his career and became a household name thanks to a charming persona plus a clutch of monumental Hip Hop records that tugged at the hearts of daytime radio's core audience. Now a name which the masses instantly gravitate to, B.o.B's next adventure finds him tackling the much dreaded second album, which has claimed many careers due to the difficulty of matching the lofty heights of one's previous efforts. How will his sophomore effort Strange Clouds fare in the challenge?

Crooning Lothario Trey Songz has spent the last year on the ascent. A short year before Passion, Pain & Pleasure, Songz released Ready, the album that established him as a rising R&B star. And within the two records, Songz has been working relentlessly to raise his visibility; staying in constant rotation on urban radio, supporting on Jay-Z’s national US tour and starring in his own reality TV series being just some of the things he’s done in a bid to secure the top spot in today’s R&B market. Passion, Pain and Pleasure came at exactly the right time to capitalise on Songz’s current buzz in the urban scene and in its first week of sales it almost doubled Ready’s first week sales. So how does the album sound?

Whilst Drake and Nicki Minaj have released enough Young Money material to blanket the Hip Hop world until 2014, a void still remains which neither could cover. Leader of the Young Money revolution Lil’ Wayne has had his dominance at the top cut short due to a recent prison spell. But even incarceration hasn’t been successful in putting a halt to the man’s work rate as New Orleans’ favourite son drops his latest EP-turned-album, I’m Not A Human Being. A title fitting to an artist whose material output could only be described as out of this world, Lil Wayne’s next venture hopes to keep him abreast of the rest of Hip Hop’s all star lineup, even with a brief hiatus.

As a complete body of work, the highly anticipated Thank Me Later is undoubtedly effective and coherent. What it lacks in flair and punch, it makes up for in musical intelligence. Despite numerous (hopefully unintentional) album fillers there are many strong moments. Tracks such as ‘Miss Me’, ‘Thank Me Now’, ‘9am In Dallas’, ‘Light Up’ and ‘Fireworks’ serve to invalidate the words of Drake’s critics and will surely appease his die-hard fans. Although his metaphors verge on sloppy (the ‘punch line’ "Presidential suite girl. Barack Hussein" is a cringe worthy low point), lyrically it's solid enough to assist an overall enjoyable listening experience.
