Album Review: Vivian Green – Beautiful (E1 Music)

Vivian Green is back on the scene with her third studio album, Beautiful – a title that simply defines her instantly recognisable voice, style and lyrics.

Having written songs for the likes of Boyz II Men and Britney Spears and provided backing vocals for Jill Scott, Vivian Green’s debut A Love Story (2002) was certified Gold and featured the amazing Eric Roberson penned single “Emotional Rollercoaster”. This was followed by her second studio album Vivian (2005), which debuted at number 18 on Billboard 200 charts.

2010 sees Vivian working again with long-time collaborator Anthony Bell, who takes the majority of production duties on her latest album, Beautiful.

“Caught Up” is also a mindful highlight of the album. The mid-tempo “So Far Gone” features Vivian Green’s brother, rapper and co-writer Solomon Green. “Jordan’s Song” is a very touching dedication to her five year old son. The album’s bonus track is also one of my favourites; “One of None”, expressing thoughts  of her perfect partner who seems too good to be true.

This album shares some similarities with her previous work, which can be a good or bad thing. You can definitely hear the maturity in her lyrics and how her voice has become even stronger but still remained distinct and unique – I hope to see and hear so much more from Vivian Green.

Vivian Green’s new album Beautiful is out now via E1 Music.
