“I’m going to go out on a limb and say it’s probably going to be the best album of 2012...” Detroit producer Apollo Brown boasted at SXSW about his new collaborative album Trophies, with legendary emcee OC. “I’m not being cocky," he continued," but from a fan standpoint and stepping out of myself and not being biased it’s a great album—quality music." Brown also went to say that the project took the two four months to create and it’s an instant classic. Typically, when people say boastful things like this about their albums, the pedestal they placed the album on doesn’t always correlate with reality... In the case of Trophies, calling the album a classic is fitting.

We were first introduced to Teairra Marí in 2005 courtesy of Jay-Z and Roc-a-Fella Records/Def Jam. The then 16-year-old Detroit vocalist crooned about having “No Daddy”, and posed the immortal question, “Are there any boys around that know how to make a girl feel?” Eight years later, Mari has developed into a woman both mentally and musically leaving childish pursuits behind.

It may have been his former labelmate and longtime friend Eminem who asked the masses to "guess who's back" with his 2002 hit single "Without Me", but it's Obie Trice who's answering the question a decade later. Nearly six years had passed since one of Detroit's foremost rappers delivered a studio album, the last being 2006's Second Round's On Me, and the hiatus is attributed to both personal and business matters (i.e., a loss of faith in then-distributors Interscope coupled with the devastating passing of one of Obie's closest friends, Proof).
