The award-winning musical about the life of “the father of Afrobeat,” Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, is to be staged in his home country, Nigeria for the first time in April, following the lead producer Stephen Hendel’s promise as reported in January.
The musical Fela! which opened in New York in 2008 and was transferred to Broadway in 2009 will be staged at the Eko Hotel & Suite’s Expo Centre in the country’s capital, Lagos from April 20 to April 25 as well as a one off performance at the Kuti family’s New Afrikan Shrine club which is modelled after Fela’ original venue – The Shrine.
Tickets for the Nigerian run of the Fela! musical will go on sale online on March 15 while pre-booking of VIP tickets, corporate sales and tables begun on March 2 at Eko Hotel.
