‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ tops ‘Harry Potter’ to become UK’s fastest-selling paperback of all time | Books News

Two years after initially being posted on the internet, Erika Mitchell‘s erotic novel Fifty Shades of Grey is now the UK’s fastest-selling paperback of all time.

Selling more than 100,000 copies last week alone (with my book club helping to rack up the numbers), Fifty Shades of Grey has been the best-selling book for nine weeks. The trilogy (Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed are the subsequent titles) has also held the top three spots on the UK paperback chart for the past six weeks.

Mitchell, who wrote the novels under the pen name E L James, is said to be worth £4 million and, along with her deals in both the UK and US, has reportedly also signed her first Hollywood movie contract.

Now I won’t go into the details of the books, but when you consider that they’ve been dubbed “mummy porn” and have prompted fans to write Mitchell letters thanking her for “spicing up their marriages,” I’m sure you can figure out what they’re about. If not, you’re probably not old enough to read the book or this post, so please press the little “x” in the upper right-hand corner and leave this page.

For those of you that stayed, you can purchase the books here at 50% off RRP. Do so at your own risk…
