Yasiin Bey performs with the Brooklyn Philharmonic [Video]

Always one to take Hip-Hop to new places (he was the first rapper to perform at Carnegie Hall, not you-know-who), Yasiin Bey (fka Mos Def) rocked the stage at Brooklyn’s Restoration Plaza yesterday as part an eclectic musical performance backed by none other than the Brooklyn Philharmonic.

The show mixed music from Hip-Hop to Lena Horne ballads to Beethoven remixes, and Yasiin closed the event by grabbing his trademark old-school microphone and giving the 64-piece orchestra the pleasure of accompanying him on a short selection of songs from his catalog, including The Ecstatic‘s “Life In Marvelous Times.”
