Wretch 32 x Emeli Sande – “Underdog Law” | New Music x Free Download

The artists occupying the #1 and #2 positions in the UK national chart come together for this powerful, piano-led celebration of their journeys to the top. Wretch 32 and Emeli Sande, who scored success with their tracks “Don’t Go” and “Heaven” respectively last night, linked up in the studio last week to record “Underdog Law”, which Sande produced.

The fact that two homegrown “Urban” artists with the storied backgrounds of Wretch and Emeli were battling for the top spot in the national chart with exceptional singles is incredible in itself. That they recorded this in the week that their tracks were released, and subsequently appeared on Radio 1’s Top 40 chart countdown show together demonstrates exactly why the UK scene is so strong right now. Unity. I saw the pair of them together last night, soon after they received the news, and it was evident that they were both immensely proud of each other. The level of support they both received from fans and their industry peers was overwhelming.

Five years ago, an artist making black music couldn’t dream of getting signed to a major label. Two years ago, the tides were changing but people had to make cheesy pop songs to get through the door. Now, Wretch is at the helm of a movement of artists releasing great music that we can all be proud of and scoring chart success. Emeli, a world-class songwriter and great artist in her own right, sold out the London date of her upcoming UK tour (which went on sale today) within seconds.

Beautiful track. And they flung this out for free.
