Q-Tip reveals collaborations with D’Angelo + Kendrick Lamar | Music News

Upon the announcement of his move to Kanye West‘s G.O.O.D. Music label back in April, hopes have been high for Q-Tip to reemerge to the forefront of hip-hop once again, abundant with quality music and a wide breadth of collaborations. It seems like our prayers are beginning to be answered.

In a recent interview with Giant Step, who caught up with Tip to discuss the series of parties at the Irving Plaza he’ll be curating this Summer, the A Tribe Called Quest front man revealed that he’s been producing records for a number of artists. These include celebrated neo soul singer D’Angelo (who was part of the Soulquarians outfit alongside Tip back in the late ’90s and early ’00s) and one of hip-hop’s most exciting new talents, Kendrick Lamar, as well as R&B singer, Ledisi.

“I’m basically doing a lot of production right now and that’s going really well,” he said. “I’m about to start my new album in the latter part of the summer and it should be out next year, so I’m excited about that. I’ve been excited about music in general, so it’s really good. I’m making music for other people and myself: Kendrick Lamar, D’Angelo, [and] Ledisi.”

In addition to his fourth studio album and debut release under G.O.O.D. Music, The Last Zulu, Q-Tip is expected to be contributing to the label’s compilation album, Cruel Summer, due out later this year.
