Producer Labrinth Signs With Simon Cowell

UK producer and singer Labrinth (real name Timothy McKenzie) announced that he has signed a recording contract with Simon Cowell‘s Syco record label, as well as a deal called Odd Child/Syco, through which he and his manager, Marc Williams, will discover and nurture new talent. The 21 year-old from East London is behind Tinie Tempah‘s latest single, “Frisky” and his No.1 smash “Pass Out”.

[Labrinth] is the first artist of his kind to sign to Syco, which houses the likes of Leona Lewis, Susan Boyle, Il Divo and Westlife. It is also the first time in 6 years Syco have signed an artist unrelated to their TV platforms.

“This is a crucial moment in my career, I’ve always been an ambitious and driven person and Simon has given me a bigger playing field,” said Labrinth of the signing. “I’m gonna show Uncle Sy a whole new world!”

Labrinth’s first single is “Let The Sunshine” due for release Summer 2010. Currently the talented producer is said to be working on tracks for JLS and Pixie Lott with future projects for Jay-Z, Rihanna and Cheryl Cole planned.
