YJ – ‘Kano & Ghetts’ | Music Video

My roving eye is almost glued to the underground as I believe the hub of authentic talent is concieved there. Much to my excitement I have come across rapper YJ.

Already having opened for US artists Bow Wow and Mario as well as Nigerian artist 2 Face, YJ is no stranger to the music industry. Heavily set on expanding his brand, he has developed artistic and performance skills by gigging at high-profile events throughout the UK for the last couple years.

His versatility as a rapper is emphasised through tempo changes in his delivery, oozing the gift of profound and poetic consistency along with wit and humour. This raw South London artist’s rapping style definitely mirrors that of UK rappers Kano and Ghetts — to whom he pays homage in his recent music video.

The video, edited by Bartoven, sees YJ is his element, kicking off with a “throw away bar” freestyle intro into a black-and-white visual storyline based on his musical influences. A timeless montage of YJ’s past performances is also included, matching his reflection on how far he has come as an artist.

His forthcoming EP The Message is set to be released on 30 July and will feature an array of collaborations with several talented up-and-coming artists.
