Sevyn Streeter feat. Kid Ink – “nEXt” | Music Video

Sevyn Streeter follows her Gold-selling single featuring Chris Brown, “It Won’t Stop,” with a video for the closing song of her Call Me Crazy, But… EP. Featuring rap verses from Kid Ink, waning guitar chords and quirky beeps of the MPC accompany Streeter’s frustrated vocals on “nEXt” as she sings of attempting to move on from her ex-boyfriend, only to wind back up with him.

The video, directed by Derek Blanks, adds an interesting narrative to the lyrics with several nods to BET series Being Mary Jane. After a break up at work [of all places], the rising R&B singer gets into a relationship with another man who, unbeknownst to her, is already in a long-term relationship. What follows is the inevitable return to her ex. Along with this story we get subtle plugs of her EP in the form of a blockbuster movie promotion, cuts of post-its and Streeter being reflective in the tub.

The Florida native has had a number of ups and downs in the music industry, first making her mark in 2002 as a member of the short-lived girl group TG4 and later as part of producer Rich Harrison‘s RichGirl group. 2011 onwards saw Streeter songwriting for a number of prominent artists, including Alicia Keys, Brandy and Chris Brown – also featuring on the latter’s 2012 album, Fortune – while launching her solo career, with her debut EP Call Me Crazy, But… released in December 2013.
