Beyoncé releases self-titled visual album f/ Jay Z, Drake, Frank Ocean, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Beyoncé closes the week with a grand audiovisual assault, unexpectedly releasing a new self-titled album accompanied by a host of vibrant, sensual, artsy music videos.

The Beyoncé project consists of 14 songs and 17 videos shot around the globe, all crafted with varied creative input, direction and features from the likes of JAY Z, Drake, Frank Ocean, Timbaland, Justin Timberlake, Pharrell Williams, The Dream, Sia, Miguel, Hit Boy and acclaimed author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

Bypassing exhaustive digital release promo procedures of announcements, teasers, snippets and previews of previews, the international pop icon from Houston, Texas released her fifth solo album on iTunes without warning in the early hours of Friday, December 13.

“I didn’t want to release my music the way I’ve done it, I am bored with that,” Beyoncé explains of her current vision. “I feel like I am able to speak directly to my fans. There’s so much that gets between the music, the artist and the fans… I just want to give my album to the people I love and respect and hope that they feel the same thing I felt when I made the music.”

Directed by Jake Nava, Hype Williams and Terry Richardson among others, the album’s extensive range of videos showcase a scale of Beyoncé’s reflective, playful, sexy and silly sides at locations around the world, including Brazil, New York, LA, Paris and her Houston hometown.
