I/O – ‘Isolation’ | Stream + Free Download

Harlem-born singer/songwriter/producer Ayo Olatunji — professionally known as I/O — checks in with his debut full-length, Isolation. The free LP is the follow-up to last year’s 8-Bit Love mixtape.

I/O is the grandson of late Nigerian drum legend and social activist Babatunde Olatunji, who founded the Olatunji Center for African Culture in Harlem with jazz icon John Coltrane and recorded with several iconic artists including Quincy Jones and Stevie Wonder over the course of his nearly 50-year career. Olatunji even won a Grammy in 1991 for Planet Drum, his collaborative album with Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart.

I/O is keeping the family’s musical heritage alive, coming into his own as a respected artist with a one-man-gang mentality that’s displayed on Isolation. Ten of the project’s 12 tracks are self-produced, while I/O takes sole writing credit for the entire LP.
