Ed Sheeran signs with Atlantic Records following ‘No. 5 Collaborations Project’ success

Having made crashing waves across the UK urban scene throughout 2010, undeniably talented UK singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran announces his decision to sign with Atlantic Records.

The news follows his exciting Top 10 debut in the UK iTunes albums chart this week with his independently released No. 5 Collaborations Project EP, an eight-track collection featuring Sheeran’s work with a host of UK emcees.

Including Wiley, Devlin, Wretch 32, Ghetts, Sway, JME, P. Money, Ghetts, Dot Rotten, Random Impulse and Mikill Pane, the project highlights just a few of the plethora of artists lining up to record and perform with Ed following his whirlwind year – and was reportedly the fastest selling album on iTunes since The XX.

Speaking to The Sun at London music showcase ILUVLIVE earlier this week the Norfolk hailing talent revealed, “A guy from one of the big labels told me he was gutted they didn’t sign me two years ago when they had the chance.”

With smiley faces galore, Sheeran announced his freshly inked major label deal today via Twitter: “So after 4 years of grinding independently, touring, releasing, sleeping on sofas, I just signed to Atlantic records.

“Thank you to everyone who has ever bought a cd, come to a gig, watched a YouTube video, said hello! You have made this all possible :)

“Because of you guys I’m allowed to make the album I wanna make, how I wanna make it, with the songs I wanna have on it, which means the world… With 10 independent releases to my name that I still own aswell, it’s a wicked day!”

As Ed continues to work with a range of emerging and established acts on the UK urban scene, a collaboration may also be on the cards with emerging Scottish DJ and singer Yasmin, who has described Sheeran as “one of the most talented and hardworking people I’ve met in this business…” adding, “the scary thing is, this EP is just a tiny fraction of what Ed has to offer as an artist… Mark my words, he will be huge.”

Noting the start of a new chapter in his already impressive journey, Ed Sheeran’s story will likely serve as inspiration to many independent artists in the UK over the coming year – and beyond.
