Blood Orange covers Drake’s “Hold On We’re Going Home” | New Music

Lightspeed Champion creator Dev Hynes, aka Blood Orange, has given the cover treatment to Drake‘s latest track “Hold On We’re Going Home” – taken from the Toronto stars forthcoming album Nothing Was The Same – with Hynes stripping away the majority of the electronic beat-focused production and instead providing rhythm from some seriously funky guitar riffing.

After a Prince-inspired intro, a wash of ethereal synthesiser comes through before Hynes’ own Smokey Robinson-style vocal wafts over Drake’s lines, removing the original’s four-to-the-floor driving vibe. Ending on a stadium-rock, wailing guitar solo, Blood Orange manages to completely transform the song from its original, taking away the retro sensibility and infusing it with a form of contemporary electro-funk and soul.
