BenZel – “Fallin’ Love” | New Music

We were recently introduced to Japanese production duo BenZel, when the 15 and 17 year old Umi Takahaski and Yoko Watanabe collaborated with Jessie Ware and wowed us with their take on Brownstone‘s ’94 R&b hit “If You Love Me”.

On their SoundCloud account, the Osaka-hailing whiz-kids claim to draw inspiration from the realms of ’90s R&B and J.Dilla’s hip hop, and their latest track “Fallin’ Love“, which shares its name with a classic Slum Village song, is yet another wonderfully catchy take on those influences- forward-thinking rather than nostalgic.

There’s no guest vocalist here, but funky bass, heavily-distorted samples and guitar sequences make this every bit as brilliant as “If You Love Me”. I’ll leave you to stream the track below and work out the samples for yourself.
