After blessing us with “Paranormal Paradigm” and “Failed Messiah“, fast rising Los Angeles, California native Avriel returns today to gift us with not one but two new songs.
Continuing to not only excite our eyes and ears but our brains as well with her beautiful blend of soulful vocals, cerebrally stimulating lyrical content and captivating backdrops, the 23 year old singer-songwriter doesn’t shy away from culturally sensitive subjects as she addresses abuse and rape on the Miles Native produced “Prelude”…
“I was inspired by the story Kendrick told in Keisha’s Song. I wanted to create a prelude to his story by using my own experiences, because I felt so connected to Keisha’s struggle. I hoped the song would shed light on the cycle of abuse and neglect of black women, and how it negatively affects everyone in our community on some level — even our men.”
…and depression, PTSD and the struggles of young black men in America on the Sa’eed produced teaser titled “Freedom”…
“I once dated a man who battled with depression… At times it even felt like he was dealing with PTSD from growing up in poverty”. “Through being with him, I was able to empathize and really understand how difficult it is to be a black man in America”. – Avriel
