Asher Roth announces Rawther project with Nottz & Travis Barker [Video] | Music News

Asher Roth certainly knows how to treat his fans. To follow up from his highly impressive collaborative release with Nottz, Rawth EP, in 2010 (sidebar: 2011’s free tape Pabst & Jazz was equally as dope), the newly aligned Def Jam rapper is heading back to the studio with the beatsmith to craft a new free project entitled Rawther, this time welcoming blink-182 drummer Travis Barker into the equation.

Roth revealed the project in an interview with HipHopDX, in which he also hinted at the mixtape’s direction.

“Travis Barker is on the drums, and it’s just like so stupid. He’s trying all these new things and messing around. Obviously, he’s a music guy. So he’s sampling all this Indie Rock—whether it be White Stripes or all this other stuff,” detailed Roth.

“The new stuff that we’re doing is…I don’t even know if you can classify it as Hip Hop. It’s almost Rock music that’s coming from the boom bap, and there’s elements of psychedelic trip Rock.”

In the conversation below, the Morrisville, PA emcee also spoke on his progression as an artist, his relationship with his fans and his signing to the decorated Def Jam label.

Rawther joins Asher Roth’s sophomore album Is This Too Orange? for an expected arrival in 2012, although neither have concrete release dates as of yet.
