Adele equals Beatles’ record with four simultaneous Top Fives in UK charts | Music News

North London-born songstress Adele this week became the first artist since The Beatles to hold two top five positions in both the UK’s single and album charts.

Following a widely acclaimed performance at last week’s Brit Awards, her latest single “Someone Like You” jumped 46 places in the chart to become her first UK number one, whilst “Rolling In The Deep” moved up one place to number four. Meanwhile in the album charts, her latest offering 21 held strong for the fourth week at number one, whilst her debut 19 moved up to number four.

It was 1964 when the Beatles scored a simultaneous pair of top five singles and albums; a feat that, until now, no artist has replicated. With that in mind, this is an outstanding achievement which is only fitting given the critical and public adulation bestowed on Adele so far this year.

Check out Adele’s BRIT Awards performance of “Someone Like You” below, complete with a disconcertingly serious James Corden introduction. Amazing despite her nerves, but is it as good as her stunning performance on Jools Holland‘s show late last year?
