In part 1 of our interview with emerging Scottish singer-songwriting talent Yasmin , she talks to SoulCulture about the crucial role her latest single “Finish Line” had in launching her career as a recording artist – and landing her that all-important record deal.
Created in a 1 AM session with hot property UK producer/musician/singer Labrinth in January 2010 (before his “Pass Out” success with Tinie Tempah), the song eventually landed Yasmin her deal with Levels Ent after playing it to label co-director [and BBC 1Xtra DJ/presenter] Twin B on the tube home from an event in London; resulting in her becoming their first signing.
“It’s a song that in way kick-started my whole career,” she says. “I just got this feeling that I’ve got before… I feel like this is me, this is my sound.
She adds, “Even though to me it’s such a powerful song, it has been a powerful song to others – the things it’s created… So I’m just very curious to see how everyone takes it when it comes out…”
