SoulCulture TV caught up with Janelle Monae after her sold out show in London show last night to discuss her GRAMMY Award nominations [Best Urban/Alternative Performance for ‘Tightrope’ and Best Contemporary R&B Album for her debut album, The Arch Android] and her highlights of 2010..
“I’m honoured, grateful, all those wonderful things to be recognised at such an early stage in my career – you know, this is my first full-length album – however when I wrote The ArchAndroid I never wrote it with the intentions of receiving anything,” she told us.
“It was always for the people; to uplift them and inspire them and bring people together and to unite people. I’m just most
proud of what we’ve done and how the people have gravitated towards it…”
Judging by last night’s show, where all ages, races and ‘types’ came together under one roof to dance elatedly, clap,
scream and generally admire and absorb the 2010 masterpieces that are Janelle Monae and The Arch Android, I’d say
her mission has been well accomplished.
From touring with Prince to playing a date with Stevie Wonder and winning a Soul Train award, her well deserved Grammy nods are the icing on the cake.
