Chiddy Bang on “Ray Charles,” Breakfast album & UK influence | SoulCulture TV

On their recent visit to London, playful Philadelphia, Pennsylvania hailing rap duo Chiddy Bang sat down with SoulCulture TV to kick a freestyle and share the story of how they came together musically, what’s to come on their upcoming debut studio album Breakfast and how UK music has influenced them – plus what’s behind their “Ray Charles swagger.

“I think one of the cornerstones of our chemistry as a duo is our spontaneous energy; the use of that, him just chilling making a beat up on the spot and me just kicking some freestyle type shit over it,” says Chidera “Chiddy” Anamege. Laughing, producer Noah “Xaphoon Jones” Beresin adds, “That’s like how we made both our singles.”

The pair both express admiration for the growth of the dubstep movement from the UK, as Xaphoon reveals his beat digging missions wandering around London recording sounds to experiment with – “I’m probably the only dude driving through North Philly blasting Rinse FM at top volume” – and Chiddy shouts out Simon Cowell-signed UK producer Labrinth.

“bad artists copy – but great artists steal” –Xaphoon Jones

Chiddy Bang’s debut studio album Breakfast is set for release in the UK on March 5, whilst their new single “Ray Charles” is out on February 26 – take a listen below.
