Mr. MFN eXquire f/ Thundercat - "Butt Naked Baby Cupid" | New Music

Mr. MFN eXquire claims he sucks at love songs. He's wrong. How do we know? It’s because he released "Butt Naked Baby Cupid".

Smooth, melodic and genial are not the kind of adjectives we usually use to describe the New York MC or any artist that incorporates obscenities in their moniker for that matter. However, here we are in ownership of the mellow "Butt Naked Baby Cupid" that calls for assistance from the supremely talented Thundercat for an equally supreme piece from the same artist that brought tracks such as "Huzzah".

We welcome it but what about you guys? Hit the play below below to here Mr. MFN eXuire's latest release "Butt Naked Baby Cupid".

Captain Murphy, Earl Sweatshirt, DOOM & Thundercat – "Between Villains" | New Music

Captain Murphy (FlyLo's rapping alter ego) today drops off his contribution to the Adult Swim Singles Series in the form of "Between Villains" in which he brings along some pretty formidable friends.

With Flying Lotus inviting DOOM, Earl Sweatshirt & Thundercat, "Between Villains" takes an understandably dark turn through a frightful alleyway of menacing baselines and ghoulish piano keys.

With 10 of 15 tracks down, The Adult Swim Singles Series is unfortunately approaching its conclusion, but check out the Soundcloud stream below for the previous tracks and be sure to keep an ear out for the last 5.

Free, amazing music people, enjoy.

Thundercat - "Lotus And The Jondy" I New Music

"Lotus And The Jondy" is the latest track to be released from Thundercat's excellent new record Apocalypse, co-produced by label boss Flying Lotus.

In a mere five minutes, Thundercat, real name Stephen Bruner, teams up with Mars Volta drummer Thomas Pridgen and takes us on a prog-jazz odyssey about hallucinogenic walks through the forest. With only one verse of lyrics, the track mainly revolves around the repeated refrain of "Lotus and the Jondy" which echoes over Bruner's bass-harmonics until Pridgen lets loose on the drums, providing an ear-shattering minute of chopped and layered percussion. The track is one of the most experimental on the record, but all the more interesting for it. Check it out below:

Apocalypse is out now on Brainfeeder Records, read our review here.

Thundercat - Apocalypse | Album Review

Stephen Bruner, aka Thundercat, has become the go-to bassist for artists seeking a virtuosic but tasteful low-ender. Notably on Flying Lotus’ 2010 LP, Cosmogramma, his fidgety six-string runs meshed perfectly with FlyLo’s electronica, heralding a surprisingly coherent musical partnership that would blossom with Thundercat’s first solo offering, The Golden Age of Apocalypse.

Whilst on paper the idea of a fusion-versed bassist collaborating with an electronica producer might sound inaccessible, in practice the result is accessible almost to the point of pop. Thundercat’s sound is a near-perfect marriage of catchy soul imbued with a sense of Afrofuturism [vaguely reminiscent of the likes of Weather Report and Billy Cobham], creating an album that valiantly attempts to present technological and musical virtuosity in coexistence with funk and soul.

Enter Apocalypse. The album's grandiose title serves to signpost the ambitious content in store. Read more

Thundercat - "O Sheit It's X" (co-prod. Flying Lotus & Mono/Poly) | New Music

Thundercat hits us with another thumping track from his upcoming sophomore album Apocalypse in the form of “O Sheit It’s X”, a thoroughly funky (and humourous) disco jam. Co-produced by his Brainfeeder brother Mono/Poly and head honcho Flying Lotus, the song carries a strong party feel, and the DNA of all three artists can be heard in the song. If you’re feeling the tune, which I think it’s safe to say you are, I thoroughly suggest checking out Mono/Poly’s 2010 album Paramatma, as the similar vibes can be heard throughout the album in tracks like “Let’s Take a Trip” and “Nexplore”.

With FlyLo and Thundercat currently at work on a "crazy Jazz album" (that isn't Apocalypse in case you get them confused) featuring the one and only Herbie Hancock, if “Oh Sheit It’s X” is a preview of what’s to come then we’re in for a treat.

Check out the track below, and UK fans can see Thundercat live with Slugabed and Kutmah at the UK launch party for Apocalypse at Bethnal Green’s York Hall on July 13th. Tickets are available here.

Karen Be - DoomBe: Special Bloom [EP] | Free Download

Mention the name DOOM to certain people - London gig promoters especially - and you’ll elicit a range of responses, most of which would be non too pleasant after a couple of recent no shows. In spite of this, his production continues to be sought after, with Masta Ace being the latest in a long line of rappers to rhyme over select cuts from his Special Herbs instrumental series.

However no one has remixed and sung over them – until now. Hawaiian based singer, songwriter and producer Karen Be has definitely brought something new and creative to the table with her EP. Read more

Flying Lotus - 'Between Friends' (Thundercat Version) | New Music

Yesterday, we heard "Between Friends", the first-ever collaboration between beatsmith Flying Lotus and Odd Future's highly-regarded lyricist Earl Sweatshirt. And, although the teen spitter didn't quite approach the beat with the intent of causing dexterous damage (an unusual, voice-filtered ponder is what it was), FlyLo's sublime production absolutely warranted time in your ears.Read more
