Skullcandy Roc Nation Aviators Presents: Rita Ora | Video

These slick brown Aviators are fairly high on my wishlist right now... Hmm. I now realise 'slick' and 'brown' should never accompany each other in a sentence. My bad. Moving on...

Get to know Roc Nation's new leading lady Rita Ora in the latest Skullcandy webisode below. A Sylvia Young Theatre School graduate, you caught glimpse of this 19-year-old singer from Kosovo via West London in the videos for Drake's "Over" and Jay-Z's "Young Forever".

[As an artist, she almost as unknown in the UK as she is Stateside, by the way, bar this video with Craig David and the Your Country Needs You auditions for Eurovision.]

Now find out a little more...

Tinchy Stryder And Jay-Z Takeover Roc Nation | News

Following several weeks of speculation, it was confirmed today that UK rapper Tinchy Stryder is set to go into business with Jay-Z at Roc Nation.

In it’s first European venture, Roc Nation have signed Tinchy’s management company. The new leg of the company will be called Takeover Roc Nation (a better fitting name would've been "Fleeeee" Nation, no?) and will release records with Sony Music and tickets with Live Nation.

This deal sees Tinchy Stryder in a management guise rather than performer, therefore I anticipate more success here than garnered with Jay-Z affliated past UK signings. [Sugababes & Lady Sov, anyone?]

Tinchy met Jiggaman [along with Beyonce and Drake] face to face for the first time on Monday in Manchester, where Jay-Z was headlining the MEN Arena

This is definitely an interesting one to keep an eye on. Congrats Tinchy!

Hip Hop Congress Presents: Roc Nation's J. Cole

A little late on this one but I've just had a chance to check it out. My current rapper-crush and Roc Nation's rising star J. Cole performing onstage at Xavier University. I'm definitely feeling his charisma and crowd camaraderie. Makes me excited about his first UK performance next month at Wireless Festival.

Crouching Tiger: J. Cole Interview with Hardknock TV

"It's everything that I wanted, without even knowing that I wanted it."

Speaking to Nick Huff Barili of HardKnockTV, ferocious Roc Nation emcee J. Cole talks about the "beautiful experience" of making his first single, "Who Dat" and the stylistic void he's here to fill in Hip Hop.  He refutes the comparison of XXL's Freshmen list to a football team, commenting, "It's so individualistic, nobody's helping each other, it's more like golf or tennis - we all exist in the same field but it's an individual sport. I have to go out there and do me."

In part two, Cole talks about getting the timing right for his album's release, whether he foresees making any more mixtapes before his album drops, why he likes to spend time talking to fans and the learning experience of touring solo compared to previous tours alongside more established artists such as Jay-Z and Wale:

"There's enough room for everybody to co-exist."

J. Cole - "Who Dat"x"I Get Up"x"Lights Please"x"Grown Simba"x"Dreams" LIVE (Video)

Some very nice sounding clips from J. Cole's recent show at USF Tampa a few nights ago.
Performing his brand new track "Who Dat" as well as some classics from his mixtape The Warm Up, J. Cole definitely exudes star quality as well as a genuine love for his fans, even inviting a young lady from the crowd to sing a duet on his song "Dreams" (With interesting results lol).

Bridget Kelly interview w/ the.LIFE files (Video)

By now you should be aware of Bridget Kelly, a fresh Roc Nation artist recognisable from several Jay-Z performances of  'Empire State of Mind' in place of Alicia Keys.

"Direct from the Roc Pop traveling store, Roc Nation artist Bridget Kelly talked to the.LIFE Files hours before she hit the Madison Square Garden stage with Jay-Z!! Adrienne jumps on the bus to find out how Bridget was chosen to fill in for Alicia Keys on Jay-Z’s hit Empire State Of Mind while on tour, her sense of style and attending New York’s “Fame” school – LaGuardia High School Of Music And Arts." - The Life Files

J. Cole Interview With Rap Up TV (Video)

Cole spitting his favourite verse for SoulCulture.TV HERE) Shoutout to Rameen Gasery on The Click-Click & the the good Folk at ROC towers.
Anywhos...back to the story.

In this interview J. Cole talks about his upcoming debut album, producers he has worked with for the project, whether we will see a Jay-Z feature on his debut and more.

"J. Cole on his humble beginnings as a bill collector to becoming the first artist signed to Jay-Z's Roc Nation label"

"J. Cole reveals the lineup for his debut album and speaks on recording with Pharrell. Plus, will his Roc Nation boss Jay-Z appear on the album? "

Nicki Minaj x Chase & Status "Saxon" (New Music)

nicki minajchase n status

Young Money artist Nicki Minaj takes on UK superproducers Chase & Status' dubstep anthem "Saxon" - a reference track for Rihanna that never made it onto Rated R.  Chase & Status have had an amazing year so far scoring a top ten track in the UK and production on Rihanna, Jay-Z and Roc Nation's first UK artist Rita Ora projects.

I would have loved to hear Nicki Minaj actually rap on this but to be honest it grew on me and I can't stop listening to it.

Rappers on Dubstep? Yay or Nay? What are your thoughts?

Bridget Kelly "The Christmas Song" (Video)

Bridget Kelly

A special Christmas present from Roc Nation singer/songwriter Bridget Kelly. Beekay sings "The Christmas Song" with producer Brian "BK" Kennedy on the keys.
After seeing this young lady blaze stages with Jay-Z on his recent Blueprint 3 tour (I actually prefer her live vocals on Empire State Of Mind to those of Alicia Keys.), she's destined for great things.

ALBUM REVIEW: Rihanna - Rated R

It's been a highly publicised turbulent year for Robyn 'Rihanna' Fenty, with her assault in February catapulting her into a strange place of sensationalised super stardom that even her mega-hit "Umbrella" didn't garner.  But whilst she has been ever-present on blogs and gossip pages, she didn't utter a word on record and her silence transcended into music; we didn't hear so much as a leaked interlude until very recently.

Rihanna didn't talk until the promotional engine was in motion, leading many to regard Rated R as the aural response to her relationship with Chris BrownRead more

Have a listen to "Russian Roulette" - premiered today, it is the first single from Rihanna's fourth album, Rated R.

Penned by Ne-Yo, "Russian Roulette" was produced by UK-based duo Chase & Status, known for their work on the drum n bass scene but steadily approaching international attention on a much bigger scale for their varied work on, amongst other things, forthcoming Roc Nation projects including new albums from Rihanna and Rita Ora. Last month in New York, met Roc Nation-signed emcee J. Cole and asked him, "Of all the lyrics you've written... What's your favourite verse?"

Speaking from the heights of the Roc Nation HQ, the lyricist explains his choice and drops an impromptu recital of his selected verse  which comes from "The Badness" ft. Omen, which featured on [his immensely dope free mixtape] The Warm Up earlier this year.

The North Carolina raised Roc Nation signee J.Cole dropped his second mixtape on Monday.
