Kidz In The Hall - Occasion | Album Review

Even whilst spending the majority of their years on renowned underground labels, Chi-city double act Kidz in the Hall have always managed to creep into the vicinity of the mainstream. Whether it's minor hits or appearing on MTV and BET, Naledge and Double O's school hall charisma and streetwise demeanor has proven to be too contagious to be simply boxed into the confined spaces of Hip Hop's basement. With Occasion being their fourth offering, the question remains as to whether it contains the maturity which one would expect from a fourth release or will the boys from the Windy City forever remain adolescent both in their make-up and musical growth?

MOBO Awards 2011 Nominations: Jessie J, Adele, Wretch 32 and Tinie Tempah lead the way

The nominations have been announced for the 16th annual MOBO Awards, with the ceremony taking place in Glasgow, Scotland this year on October 5; co-hosted by Jason Derulo and featuring a special performance from Boyz II Men, plus Jessie J, Katy B and Alexis Jordan among others.

Celebrating another year of 'music of black origin' and many of our recent homegrown success stories, this year's nominees include a mixture of expected, near-household names and a host of quickly established newcomers; so-called "Team UK" has had one heck of a year and this year's nominations list really reflects that.

Of course there's the obligatory International Act category but for once, it's truly our own stars taking up the spotlight this year; Jessie J and Adele lead the pack with five and four nominations each respectively, whilst Wretch 32 and Tinie Tempah also nab four each; with all four of them going head-to-head against Chase & Status, Chipmunk, Example, Katy B, N-Dubz and The Streets in a bid to be crowned Best UK Act.

As with all awards shows, there's always some dispute about who's been missed off the list; or dubiously slipped onto it. This year's shocker was saved 'til last, with newcomer Mike Hough up for Best UK R&B/Soul Act - alongside Adele, Dionne Bromfield, Marsha Ambrosius and Omar - armed with his voice and some impressive cover versions without so much as an album to his name. Never underestimate the power of YouTube....
