Katy B - "5AM" | New Music

Katy B – 5AM (2)

South London songstress Katy B takes us back too the dance-floor, providing the soundtrack to that early morning rave experience with her brand new single "5AM".

The track recently premièred on BBC Radio 1 and becomes the second single to be see light from her much-anticipated sophomore LP, following on from her debut single "What Love is Made Of" released back in July. '90's dance-influenced synths, and deep, infectious basslines fuse well with Katy's angelic vocals as she sings "I need some lovin' like valium" - this one sure to be a dance-floor filler.

The 2011 Mercury Music Award winner will be aiming to scale the heights of  tracks such as"Lights On" and "Broken Record" taken from her debut album On a Mission as we await an official date and title for release for her second project. She of course did release the "Danger EP" last year, which featured Jessie Ware, Iggy Azalea and the Grime Godfather Wiley amongst other star names.

"5AM" will be available digitally from October 28 with pre-orders available soon. Listen to the track below in the mean time, and give us your thoughts.

Katy B covers Kele Le Roc's "My Love" [Video]

Old school garage lovers this one's for you!

Talented Brit singer Katy B is the latest artist to invade DJ Annie Mac's Access All Areas studio session as she covers the popular Kele Le Roc garage anthem "My Love," giving the song a slower, more melodic beat with some stunning vocals as Katy takes the song on a surprise twist at the end.

As a funky house, dubstep and garage artist, Katy plays ode to one of her genres of influence as she sits down in the studio accompanied by not much more than a piano and her flawless voice. When you think you've heard it all with the new rendition of the 90's hit, the song takes an unexpected turn as Katy seemlessly blends it into Justin Timberlake's very own single "My Love" with a great result.

Arctic Monkeys cover Katy B's "Katy On A Mission" on Radio One's Live Lounge | New Music

Brit indie band Arctic Monkeys dropped into the BBC Maida Vale studios today for a Live Lounge session with Fearne Cotton. Following a performance of their song "Black Treacle", the Alex Turner fronted band performed a cover of Katy B's smash single "Katy On A Mission" which although unexpected, was actually a very good and unique take on the track (almost as good as The Skints' version...almost! Ha).

Katy B - "Movement" | Music Video

Katy B might just be my favourite UK female artist - as she embarks on her second headline tour of 2011, her outstanding debut album On A Mission has spawned its sixth single in just over a year with the forthcoming release of "Movement". Even in a day and age where singles are thrown out with reckless abandon, that marks some achievement for an artist who some thought would be a one-hit wonder this time last year.

As for the Ibiza-set video - it looks great, and she looks fantastic, but it's freezing cold in London and I'm definitely hating right now. Also, I really hope Easyjet paid for that product placement. Or at least waived the £13 credit card fee.

MOBO Awards 2011 Nominations: Jessie J, Adele, Wretch 32 and Tinie Tempah lead the way

The nominations have been announced for the 16th annual MOBO Awards, with the ceremony taking place in Glasgow, Scotland this year on October 5; co-hosted by Jason Derulo and featuring a special performance from Boyz II Men, plus Jessie J, Katy B and Alexis Jordan among others.

Celebrating another year of 'music of black origin' and many of our recent homegrown success stories, this year's nominees include a mixture of expected, near-household names and a host of quickly established newcomers; so-called "Team UK" has had one heck of a year and this year's nominations list really reflects that.

Of course there's the obligatory International Act category but for once, it's truly our own stars taking up the spotlight this year; Jessie J and Adele lead the pack with five and four nominations each respectively, whilst Wretch 32 and Tinie Tempah also nab four each; with all four of them going head-to-head against Chase & Status, Chipmunk, Example, Katy B, N-Dubz and The Streets in a bid to be crowned Best UK Act.

As with all awards shows, there's always some dispute about who's been missed off the list; or dubiously slipped onto it. This year's shocker was saved 'til last, with newcomer Mike Hough up for Best UK R&B/Soul Act - alongside Adele, Dionne Bromfield, Marsha Ambrosius and Omar - armed with his voice and some impressive cover versions without so much as an album to his name. Never underestimate the power of YouTube....

See the full list of nominees below.
