Any Bob Marley fan will be aware of the countless documentaries and films made in an attempt to break down the enigmatic reggae legend's short but multifaceted life. Kevin MacDonald, the Oscar-winning film maker responsible for directing The Last King of Scotland, has joined with producers Steve Bing and Charles Steel and executive producers Ziggy Marley and Chris Blackwell to make the first authorised film of Bob Marley’s life in this feature length documentary, Marley: The Life, Music and Legacy of Bob Marley. When it comes to musicians that inspired and created timeless music that can never be forgotten, Bob Marley and his legacy is right up there as one of the greatest of all time.

Film director Kevin Macdonald [responsible for blockbuster film The Last King of Scotland] has put together Marley, a two and a half hour film chronicling Bob's personal life shown through interviews with family and friends, including never before seen footage depicting his ideas and beliefs of spirituality, personal values and practices that shaped him to be the musical icon we continue to know and love.

The film, set for release April 20, 2012  has already premièred at the 2012 Berlin Film Festival and will run at this years SXSW Festival from March 8th - 13th. Watch the trailer below.

Bob Marley: The Making Of A Legend documentary screening @BFI, London (Dec 17)

We know Robert Nesta ‘Bob’ Marley most for his legendary singing and songwriting work with the wailers and as a solo artist who masterminded countless classics; the likes of "I Shot the Sheriff," "No Woman, No Cry," "Could You Be Loved," "Stir It Up," "Jamming," "Redemption Song," "Three Little Birds" and "One Love." Even after his death at the age of 36 in 1981, the Jamaican icon sold over 25 million copies of his Legend compilation , that also went ten times platinum.

As part of their African Odysseys series, on Saturday December 17 in Southbank, London the British Film Institute (BFI) will premiere Bob Marley: The Making of A Legend; a documentary commemorating the life of the revered legend that he became throughout his musical years.

Giving "an unusual" insight into the original Rasta culture from Jamaican photographer, filmmaker and actress Esther Anderson, the documentary explores the movement at its peak in the '70s, incorporating personal footage and historical and contemporary testimonies.
