Young Guru talks new Jay Z album, possible Watch The Throne sequel | Music News

Jay Z ’s close friend and longtime sound engineer Gimel “Young Guru” Keaton recently sat down with Complex and discussed several topics, including Jay-Z’s next solo album and another collaborative effort from “The Throne.” On Monday, the magazine shared a few snippets of their discussion.

Guru said that Jay-Z is currently working on his next album and that while it does have a concept, it is not a concept album. Of course, Guru remained coy about what this new concept is, but claims that fans will be just as impressed by it as he is.

“It’s a concept that I can’t talk about but I’m marveled at how smart this guy is. When he told me the concept, I was like ‘Why didn’t I think of that?’” he shared. “It’s not a concept album though. … It has a concept and a title, and the title and the concept fit him so well that people are going to be like ‘Wow.’”

“The simplicity of the title and the concept that it conveys is incredible,” he continued.

As far as another project from The Throne goes, Guru says it “Has been talked about but hasn’t been executed yet” and that it “definitely could happen.”

If Guru could have it his way, he says, Kanye West and Jay-Z would each complete their individual projects and tours this year, then come together for a possible Watch The Throne 2 afterwards.

“To me, that would be the best thing to happen. I think the G.O.O.D. Music album is necessary for Kanye to establish that brand,” he said.

Young Guru always gives compelling interviews, but it’s probably safe to assume he won’t be divulging much more info about the Jay Z project. Still, with such a candid subject and capable interviewer assigned to him, the full-length version of this one, which is coming soon, is sure to be good.
