Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) performs Waka Flocka’s “Hard In Da Paint” w/ Brooklyn Philharmonic [Video]

To the ignorant lazy casual Hip Hop listener, Yasiin Bey (FKA Mos Def) is a conscious rapper who rhymes about hugging trees and political stuff on the news. To the more well informed Hip hop listener Yasiin is a talented, eclectic, well rounded Hip Hop artist that has been rapping over a mixed bag of different genres beats with equally varied collaborations.

With that said, the idea of Mos performing a Waka Flocka Flame track shouldn’t come as a great surprise to the many of those out there that know his music well.

Over the last few days the Brooklyn emcee has been prepping for a free concert taking place tonight in Bedford-Stuyvesant’s Restoration Park. During the set Yasiin, accompanied by Brooklyn Philharmonic Orchestra, will perform his very own interpretation of Waka Flocka’s rachet club classic ‘Hard In The Paint.’

Mos Def joins Artistic Director Alan Pierson and the Brooklyn Philharmonic in bringing together the aggressive energy and charged lyrics of American hip-hop, the classic ballads of legendary Bed-Stuy singer and activist Lena Horne, and the revolutionary music of Beethoven, remixed anew by emerging artists living and working in East Brooklyn today.

Check out the rehearsal footage below of ‘Hard In The Paint’ with the orchestra – and keep it locked to SC for visuals.
