Willie The Kid – The Fly 2: The Transformation | New Mixtape

Other than Dancehall, artists from no other music genre release more body of work than that of Hip Hop artists. From the odd song leak to mixtapes, EPs and albums, not to mention album and video trailers. It’s only the second month of the year and already Hip Hop heads have been inundated with more mixtapes than we care for, a lot of which have been mediocre.

It’s because of this fact that I’m happy to point Hip Hop heads and music music fans alike to a new mixtape by Hip Hop artist Willie The Kid. The Grand Rapids, Michigan MC has been on a little bit of a tear recently since the 2010 release of his respected but unfortunately ignored EP, Never A Dull Moment.

Not to be ignored any longer Willie, who has been sign to signed to DJ Drama’s Aphilliates Music Group since 2006, has released his latest mixtape entitled The Fly 2: The Transformation.

The tape features stellar production from Alchemist and Lee Bannon, who produced the entire Never A Dull Moment project, as well as guest verses from Jon Connor and D-Block capo Styles P [listen below] and a stand out feature from Young Money artist Cory Gunz [listen below].

Improving on his earlier work – both mixtapes and his debut solo album Absolute Greatness, where Willie would be found rhyming over Southern-sounding instrumentals that didn’t necessarily compliment his flow, cadence nor lyrical ability [which I’m sure was influenced by his Atlanta base mentor, DJ Drama] – on The Fly 2: The Transformation Willie more than holds his own tracks with his fellow rhyme spitters as well has displaying a considerable amount of growth, both lyrically and conceptually on-stand out songs such as “Understanding”, “Booth Shot Lincoln” and “1000 Lashes”.
