What If Jay-Z Did Sign Cher Lloyd To Roc Nation?

Tabloid newspaper The Sun has reported that Jay-Z has signed X Factor finalist Cher Lloyd to his Roc Nation imprint, home of J. Cole, Jay Electronica and Willow Smith.

A source said: “Even though Cher didn’t do terrifically well in the X Factor finals, there’s been a hell of a lot of interest in her. Will.i.am’s backing only intensified the battle to get her signature.

“After weighing up the pros and cons, it was thought that the team at Roc Nation would be best placed to turn her dreams of stardom into a reality.”

The source added: “All the labels are on the lookout for sassy, young female artists with bags of attitude, and Cher fits that bill perfectly.”

Now, of course, I can’t take the story seriously, if anything simply because the scriber lists Jessie J, Katy B and 10 year old Willow Smith as rappers. However, considering that the 17 year old’s label home, Simon Cowell‘s UK-based Syco imprint is on Sony, as is US-based Roc Nation, it’s absolutely plausible that she’s being touted as a Roc Nation signee.

And we can’t forget that Hov once signed Cher Lloyd’s originator, Lady Sovereign.

Cher, regarded the most ‘urban’ of the X Factor finalists, first garnered support from R&B fans when she covered Keri Hilson‘s remix of Soulja Boy‘s “Turn My Swag On” at audition, has been backed by Ms. Hilson herself, and Black Eyed Peas frontman and producer Will.I.Am, who has reportedly expressed interest in signing the young singer before the show finished. “I’d sign Cher tomorrow, today, yesterday! I wanted to sign her as I left the house,” he told X Magazine.

So, for giggles, while we await official word from the Roc Nation camp, I want to take a moment to muse over what the future might hold if Cher Lloyd really is throwing up ‘Roc’ diamonds.

We can ‘look forward’ to a re-release of Willow Smith‘s “Whip My Hair” video being released for UK audiences with Cher superimposed in the visuals, a la Cheryl Cole‘s phantom feature in Nicki Minaj‘s “Check It Out” video.

Cher will open up for Rihanna during her UK tour.

And most excitingly, Cher will go bars for bars with J. Cole and Jay Electronica on the ‘street’ remix of her debut single, possibly titled, “It’s Real In The Hood”.

Let’s hope, for all of our sanities, fate doesn’t make the latter more than just a fragment of my warped imagination.
