Vybz Kartel – “Back To Life” | New Music

I can confirm the title does say new music from incarcerated dancehall artist Vybz Kartel. Anyone up-to-date with dancehall will know there has been a steady flow of new Vybz Kartel songs since being charged for two counts of murder, most seem to be old, horrible, unmixed, shamelessly chopped and slightly screwed vocals on new riddims or previously unreleased recordings from a man that practically lived in the studio.

However, none have reflected his current situation as much as this. Sampling the Soul II Soul classic of the same name, the self-proclaimed ‘World Boss ever-boastful’ entertainer shows an introspective, paranoid side rarely heard detailing the grim reality of prison life; roaches and rats, fake friends, lack of women and free time. A reference to old foe Mavado‘s 2011 anthem “Do Road” which came out shortly before his arrest dispels possibility of it being a song from one of his numerous previous jail stints.

I can’t confirm whether it is actually a new recording, but it does sound like it (I have no idea how he managed to record it if it is new).
