Tyler, The Creator discusses writer’s block, Wolf album [Video]

Tyler, The Creator and Elliott Wilson

Veteran journalist, Elliott Wilson kicked off his CRWN live interview series last week in New York City with Odd Future’s Tyler, The Creator.

Coming on stage with a bottle of milk in his hand, Tyler immediately commanded the attention of the room and you’d be forgiven for a second for thinking that Elliott had disappeared, as the outspoken rap star proceeded to interact with his fans and joke with members of the audience.

Being someone that has never been afraid to push boundaries when it comes to his projects, it’s hard to believe that Tyler would ever struggle to make music or have difficulty thinking of what type of message he wants to deliver through his songs. However, what is most notable about the first part of this live interview is that the 22-year-old Los Angeles native admits to Elliott that he suffered from writer’s block while writing his latest album, Wolf.

“I’m so bored with rapping… so when I got writer’s block, I got that sh-t so f-cking bad, like I didn’t know what the f-ck to rap about,” Tyler explained.

“I went through my phase of rapping about rape and sh-t, I rant about every serial killer so what the f-ck else? I had a writer’s block until I was like ‘oh sh-t, I can just write about how much money I made last year…”

He went on to discuss the subject of being broke during his childhood and sleeping on his grandma’s floor until the age of 20, while also explaining the reason behind his unique approach to promoting his album too.
