Timbaland says he should be involved with Drake’s rumored Aaliyah project | Music News

Rumors that Drake will be executive producing a posthumous album from R&B superstar Aaliyah sent waves through the Hip-Hop community when they broke a couple days ago, raising quite a few eyebrows due to the Young Money MC’s minimal production experience and sparking questions about the rumor’s validity.

Aaliyah’s longtime collaborator and close friend Timbaland spoke on the issue during a recent visit to Power 105’s The Breakfast Club morning show and revealed that, if the claim is true, he doesn’t think it should happen without his involvement.

“If he does it, it should be with me and him and Missy,” Tim said, referring to Missy Elliott, another of the late singer’s close friends and partners. He says that neither Drake nor anyone from his camp has reached out to him about the album project or the single Drake says will feature Aaliyah’s vocals, but that the “proper” way to pull these things off would be to make them collaborative efforts between the three of them.

“To put it on his record would not be right,” he said.

Drake will reportedly debut his new single, complete with Aaliyah’s vocals, at this weekend’s OVO Fest in Toronto.

The MC’s affinity for Aaliyah is no secret, as he’s repeatedly called her his favorite singer and has a pair of tattoos — a portrait on his back and a numerical reference on his ribcage — dedicated to her.
