Since secluding himself mainly in France, with trips to studios in Berlin and Brooklyn to record his new album, we’ve heard very little from the nomadic Theophilus London but we’re glad to get a taster of what he’s been working on with the new track “Rio” being unleashed via Soundcloud.

The new song, produced by Thomas Brenneck with a feature from the Menahan Street Band, gives us the first hint of what direction Theophilus will be going in for his new LP, but then again with such a diverse sound and with him always giving the unexpected, the album could just as well sound entirely different.

On “Rio” we get a straight holiday vibe from the song, hearing production that’s taken inspiration straight from the streets of Brazil with the light and breezy, and yet at times punchy rhythms from the percussion instruments used.

Giving more insight into the record, Theophilus explains, “I went to Rio in 2010. The trip gave me so much energy and I met so many amazing people that it inspired me to make a song in Rio’s honor.” So maybe the album will give us songs inspired by Europe and Brooklyn, too, if the singer’s recent country hopping is anything to go by.

“Rio” will be available to purchase on iTunes on Tuesday, April 16th but for now you can listen and enjoy below.
