The Weeknd – “The Party & The After Party” (Live in Montreal) [Video]

No matter how much more music he releases or how many more shows he plays, The Weeknd always seems to possess an aura of compelling mystique about him. Since rising to the top of the R&B ranks alongside his fellow new age crooner Frank Ocean, Abel Tesfaye’s stardom not only traces its roots back to the internet, but it would seem they’re planted firmly in the fertile ground of Tumblrs and SoundClouds for years to come.

The Canadian singer’s last two releases, Echoes of Silence and Thursday have both been as well received as his debut release House of Balloons, but it’s always that first high that feels the best. Still earning heavy play during laptop-ridden late night/early mornings everywhere since its release a year ago, The Weeknd, likewise, continues to bask in its sweet, sweet success at his live shows, much to the delight of his magnetised fanbase.

Amidst the plethora of harmonic hits on House of Balloons lies “The Party & The After Party”, which Drake‘s better half (musically speaking) performed to an adoring crowd in Montreal on Friday night (March 23rd). We may only have footage of Abel himself, but with a live band in support and curated black-and-white footage in the backdrop enhancing the experience, it’s clear to see the night was a success. You only need to listen to the chorus of screaming females to recognise the guy’s star appeal.
