The Dream appointed Executive Vice President of A&R at Def Jam | Music News

Terius Nash, a.k.a. The Dream, has just been appointed Executive Vice President of A&R at Def Jam records, adding another impressive title to his resume.

Barry Weiss, Def Jam’s Chairman and CEO, made the announcement alongside Karen Kwak, Executive Vice President/Head of A&R at Island Def Jam Music Group. The former explained why Nash was well-qualified for the job by saying that the Grammy Award winning artist “writes from a unique cultural point of view…” and that this quality “sets him apart from all other writers and producers out there.”

The Dream will now oversee a number of projects by new artists and scout out fresh talent. He will also work with more well-established acts such as Pusha T and Rihanna on their forthcoming releases.

In a statement on his new position, the multi-talented RnB man said that his “…concentration and effort will be to the artist to succeed in their dreams and goals.” More interestingly, he commented that “music means more than just a download, it’s life to the culture and also the people who listen. This is a new exciting yet critical time for music – ‘You Meet Change with Change!”

The Dream has been signed with Def Jam since ’07, on the strength of Rihanna’s “Umbrella”, which he himself wrote. He is CEO of Radio Killa Records, an imprint of Def Jam, and in ’09 was made an Executive Vice President at Def Jam sister label Island. He hasn’t always seen eye-to-eye with the label; last year’s album 1977 was released under the name Terius Nash rather than The Dream, to their apparent consternation.

I am committed as I have been previously to bringing the power of belief in the artist back to the forefront. I share a unique view of an artist and as well as the business of music. I, with the help of many others, have ran a successful business for the last five years in the midst of the ‘Digital Change.’ My concentration and effort will be to the artist to succeed in their dreams and goals.

I’ve been a part of watching and participating in the success of many great women and men including Beyonce, Rihanna, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion to name a few. Music means more than just a download, it’s life to the culture and also the people who listen. This is a new exciting yet critical time for music – ‘You Meet Change with Change!’
