The Dream – “AK47” | New Music

Whilst 2012 has undoubtedly been a great year for RnB, we haven’t heard much from one of the genre’s veteran singing and songwriting talents, The Dream. With his recent appointment as Executive Vice President of A&R at Def Jam, Terius Nash seems to have concentrated on scouting out new talent, rather than working on his own music, and it’s a shame, because last year’s break-up album 1977 was in places brilliant.

At long last though, we have some good news on the new music front. Although Nash has indefinitely postponed his album Love IV MMXII (which was supposed to be released at the end of last year), he has announced that he will re-releasing 1977, which initially came out as a free LP, for commercial release on December 18th (complete with new cover art).

In the meantime, a previously unreleased track from 1977 has surfaced. The extra track, entitled “AK47“, might centre itself on gun metaphors, but it’s as catchy and woman-obsessed as anything we’ve heard from Terius in a while. Have a listen for yourself below:
