The 52nd Annual Grammy Awards – The Nominations (List + Videos)

grammy-logoLast night The Recording Academy announced the nominations for the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards in LA. Hosted by LL Cool J, the nomination concert also included performances by the Black Eyed Peas, DJ/producer Guetta and Maxwell

The 52nd Annual Grammy Awards will be held on “GRAMMY Sunday,” Jan. 31, 2010, at Staples Center in Los Angeles and will be broadcast live on CBS from 8–11:30 p.m US time.

Beyoncé leads the nominations for the 2010 Grammy Awards with 10, followed by country pop queen Taylor Swift with eight; Maxwell, Black Eyed Peas, and Kanye West each with six; Jay-Z, Lady Gaga, and David Guetta are up for five.

Other notable mentions include The Foreign Exchange, Robert Glasper and Eric Roberson receiving their first ever nominations alongside returning nominees Ledisi and Anthony Hamilton.

Several people are upset about Whitney Houston‘s lack of nomination this year despite the label having moved forward her album release date to be eligible. Me personally, I just find the categories themselves interesting as part of the general debate about genre and categorisationparticularly as the lines between Soul, R&B and Pop begin to blur.
