Tall Black Guy – ‘Tempo Dreams Vol. 1’ | New Music Preview

Terrel Wallace, better known as Tall Black Guy, is from Detroit — a region where music is a fixture, as evidenced by Motown and its thriving hip-hop scene — so his calling in music makes sense.

For years, Wallace has been gaining a solid following by producing updates to songs through sample flips and production chops as well as by winning the Robert Glasper remix competition. Since gaining the following, Wallace started releasing a series of 7-inches through BSTRD Boots, a sub-label of Brooklyn’s Bastard Jazz Recordings, and now the producer is on the brink of releasing his Tempo Dreams Vol. 1 project.

The project, which will be released June 19th via Bastard Jazz, features the producer updating tracks from Teru, Tensei, Ta-Ku, Monkey Robot, Buscrates and more.

Here are some of the details that listeners can expect from the project:

Things kick off appropriately enough with French producer Teru’s “Time To Reinvent” — a summer-y joint filled with lazy keys, stuttering drums and delayed effects. ¬†Chicago duo and recent Plug Research signing Tensei make an appearance with the tropical cosmic of “Space Colony,” while Australia’s Jeriko Jackson delivers the incredibly smooth “Only Just” with it’s ghostly vocals and flowing keys.

Things move a little towards the uptempo side of Brussels based beatmakers MonkeyRobot deliver “Basement Infusion,” a deep slithering piece of bass-quaking of future-House, while Pittsburgh’s Buscrates adds a shimmering edge with “Horizons.”

Get your first taste of what to expect from the video teaser below, and mark your calendars for the actual release of Tempo Dreams Vol. 1 on June 19th.
