tabi Bonney f/ Terri Walker – ‘Castle on a Cloud’ | New Music

West African MC tabi Bonney once again links with English crooner Terri Walker, this time for “Castle on a Cloud,” a thumping, cross-continental collaboration produced by the legendary Ski Beatz.

On this very short cut, Bonney takes Ski’s bass-heavy, horn-driven soundbed and lays down a few unabashed bars about success and seeing past all the naysayers, while Walker’s smooth, somewhat husky voice anchors it all with the hook. The song is set to appear on Endless Summer, which is the name Bonney gave to the upcoming deluxe re-release of his 2011 album The Summer Years. The reissue will feature the 12 songs from the original plus several new tracks.

To those unfamiliar with Bonney, the Togo-born MC was once signed to Damon Dash‘s BluRoc Records imprint, but has since linked with Sky Republic alongside business partner and Washington D.C. MC Haziq Ali. Though supremely confident, Bonney admits that his music isn’t for everybody.

“You either get my music or you don’t,” he says in his bio. “You remember in high school you had the popular, cool kids’ table where new and trendsetting things are happening? Everybody wants to sit at that table but they can’t; that’s how I look at my music. You can’t really sit at this table if you don’t have that mentality. Most followers won’t dig it until everybody else likes it; in the meantime, they don’t know what to do.”

Endless Summer will be available for free download May 17.
