Steve Stoute & Grammy Awards Chief ‘discuss how the Recording Academy can continue to evolve’

Marketing mogul Steve Stoute spent some of his hard earned cash a few weeks ago on an open letter in The New York Times, putting the Grammy Awards and Recording Academy on blast for some of their decisions at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards.

He, in short, felt the Grammys were out of touch and felt acts like Eminem and Justin Bieber deserved awards, questioning the impact of Independent bands like Arcade Fire and the integrity of the ceremony itself.

Now, Grammy Chief Neil Portnow has teamed up with Stoute and issued a statement which said that they have “come together in a collaborative manner to discuss how the Recording Academy can continue to evolve in an ever-changing cultural environment.”

“The participation of new and culturally diverse voices has and continues to be a goal which benefits our members, the creative community, and music fans everywhere… We invite others who share this agenda to join us in these discussions.”

I’m not sure where I stand on the whole debate to be honest. I don’t see why bands like Arcade Fire wouldn’t deserve a Grammy, they’ve obviously worked hard and made some huge moves. But Eminem is a Tour de Force and Justin Bieber is a sensation… do they equally deserve recognition for it? This is likely something I will come back to in the near future, however for now, I would be interested on what you guys have to say…
