Having sat at the top of my most played list for a good many months now, I’ve started to feel guilty in keeping Stacy Barthe, her phenomenal lyrics and equally impressive voice to myself.

Having penned tracks for the likes of Rihanna, Ciara and The Black Eyed Peas to name just a few from her impressive catalogue, the Grammy nominated, Atlanta based Haitian/Dominican has finally emerged as a force to be reckoned with in her own right.

What took her so long and who was keeping her a secret?! I hear you cry. I wish I knew. But emerging onto the scene with the Frank Ocean assisted “Without You,” it seems pretty certain that she is here to stay.

Stacy Barthe f/ Frank Ocean ‘ “Without You”:

Growing up under the inspiration of Sade, Bob Marley, Ella Fitzgerald, Lauryn Hill and the Fugees, their influence is evident. Combining nostalgic sounds and lyrics comparable to the voice that brings them to life, Stacy seems to have a knack for making the inexpressible remarkably clear, evident and beautiful. Even the darkest of unvoiced thoughts and emotion seems not so dangerous when phrased by her, softly spoken voice making the replay button look ever so tempting.

This is a feat she manages to accomplish across the board, with her first full-length offering, the eight track EP – Sincerely Yours, retaining that hypnotizing, peaceful vibe. “It was not only a musical release, it was a personal release,” she says on the project. Evident in that the EP tells like a therapy session. Lyrics at times heart breaking, at times empowering, but forever enrapturing. Her sheer honesty and relatability giving you no option but to surrender whole-heartedly unto her spell.

This is something that she herself acknowledges. “You can find hurt and pain in my music while finding the light. It represents empowerment… I speak from a very truthful and sincere place… with love.”

This honesty is evident in each and every one of her offerings; refreshing in a new generation of pop, fast paced beats and the pursuit of happiness money.

Most recently she has delivered a nine track EP In The Inbetween and is currently working on her forthcoming debut album PS I love you, which she says will reveal more of her journey; “I call it ‘yacht music.’ This is something you guys can buy, it’s going to be a masterful piece of work.”

I will forever be awaiting more, and you probably will too now. Welcome to the addiction.
