Slaughterhouse – ‘Hammer Dance (El-P Remix)’ | New Music

To call El-P multi-dimensional would be an insult to the man’s talents. Not only co-founding and later spearheading the success of the indie stalwart label Def Jux in the late ’90s and early ’00s and helping to steer the Company Flow outfit to acclaim, but the Brooklyn native has mastered both the crafts of emceeing and producing like very few.

Having remained a prominent force in the genre for yet another year, due in part to his fifth solo album, Cancer 4 Cure, as well as his full-length collaboration with Southern vet Killer Mike, R.A.P. Music, which he solely produced, El probably isn’t thirsty for any more attention, but he goes ahead and drops a bomb on the blogosphere anyway.

Just like remixes to Young Jeezy‘s “I Got This“, Blockhead‘s “The Music Scene” and Dizzee Rascal and UGK‘s “Where’s Da G’s” (a personal favourite of mine) before it, Slaughterhouse‘s “Hammer Dance” is robbed of its hollow boom bap threat and assaulted with an arsenal of multi-layered drum loops, punishing scratches and electro-charged stabs to transform Joe, Royce, Joey and Crook‘s domesticated pet into a feral monster.

Slaughterhouse’s debut album, Welcome To: Our House, is due out August 28th, but unfortunately won’t feature this remix. You can stream it ’til your heart’s content below, however.
