ScHoolboy Q working on Habits And Contradictions LP | Music News

During the early to mid ’90s there was one label at the center of the West Coast’s dominance of the Hip Hop scene; Death Row Records. Today with what can be described as a collective resurgence of the West Coast’s Hip Hop scene, along with the rise of the self sufficient emcee, there doesn’t seem to be one label at the center of it all; nor does there need to be. However four artists that seem to be in and around the West’s Hip Hop resurgence are non other than Ab-Soul, Jay Rock, Kendrick Lamar and ScHoolboy Q – all of whom happen to be signed to L.A based independent label Top Dawg Entertainment.

Over the past 18 months the label has released a catalog of critically acclaimed underground Hip Hop projects of the highest [no pun intended] standard not seen, nor experienced on the Left Coast for quite some time. Projects such as LongTerm MentalityO(verly) D(edicated), Kendrick Lamar EPGudda MuzikFollow Me HomeTheTaeBeastTapeSetbacks and more recently the incredible Section.80.

Top Dawg Ent. hope to continue this run of form with the release of ScHoolboy Q‘s sophomore long player HABITS & contradictions. Set for release later this year the album, which will no doubt feature guest verses from his Black Hippy/Top Dawg running mates, was announced via Twitter by Q himself and has been billed has the “prequel” to his highly respected debut opus Setbacks, which was released towards the tail end of 2010.

With the way that Top Dawg Ent. have developed their talented roster of artists and in-house producers, as well as A&R’d their releases, expect HABITS & contradictions to add to their increasingly impressive list of critically acclaimed projects.
