After months, nay years, of waiting, Roc Nation pop princess Rita Ora‘s debut UK single finally received its radio premiere this morning.
The Chase and Status produced banger which samples Nigerian artist Nneka‘s “Heartbeat” features homegrown worldwide superstar Tinie Tempah and was written by another international star, Canadian rapper Drake. In fact, if you recognise the track, it’s because it leaked a couple of years back as a Drizzy demo called “I’m Ready For You” that many believed was intended for Rihanna. That’s some braintrust right there – between Hov, Chase & Status, Tinie and Drake, has a brand new artist ever had that much star power involved with their debut single before?
The premiere of this single follows Rita’s debut on US radio last week, when she was accompanied by label boss Jay-Z to Z100 to debut her US single, the pop-slanted “Party and Bullshit” on the station. Frankly, “RIP” is much, much better – this is a genuinely credible anthem that’s just about commercial enough to follow Rita Ora’s last appearance, on DJ Fresh‘s “Hot Right Now”, straight to the top of the charts. Massive tune.
