After her crazy Coachella performance alongside Calvin Harris that contained lots of moshing in the crowd, Rihanna showcased a more stripped-back performance at the 15th annual An Unforgettable Evening charity benefit in Beverly Hills this week, performing an acoustic cover of Bob Marley and the Wailers‘ “Redemption Song.”
Many times before, Rihanna has been criticised for her singing talent, but here, with nothing but a guitar as accompaniment, her voice powered through, giving a simple-yet-heartfelt performance. She even toned down her clothing for the occassion, wearing a casual crop top and long, high-waisted skirt — much more demure than her tour outfits.
The Bajan singer has been quite vocal about her love for Bob Marley, recently calling him her “hero” on Twitter and encouraging her 17 million-plus followers to go to see Marley: The Life, Music and Legacy of Bob Marley, the new film made about his life.
